If you have recently been diagnosed with a chronic illness that requires a lifestyle change, then you are in the right place.
Hi, I’m Karen Rigney and I help people make diet and lifestyle changes that nurture wellness and bring them back to the life they want to live. I am not a doctor; I am a bridge between you and your licensed clinician. People come to me to help them navigate the diet and lifestyle changes they need to restore their vitality.
In the 1990s a family member was diagnosed with a chronic illness. The doctor informed us that we would need to start a regimen of strong medications with serious side effects. I was reluctant about this and sought alternative answers.
Fortunately at that same time, personal computers were making their ways into homes everywhere. And with the birth of the internet, I had a library of resources at my fingertips. I spent hours pouring over all the information learning about wellness and how the body can heal itself.
And then I stumbled upon Dr. Andrew Weil who offered a course, “8-Weeks to Optimal Health” I signed up and followed his suggestions which included adding in:
- plant based foods
- appropriate and fun exercise
- an awareness practice
I was relieved that I had the answer, yet overwhelmed at all the changes I needed to make. I committed to small steps, starting with using food as medicine.
Food is medicine. This became our family’s mantra. This became the impetus for a gradual lifestyle change for my whole family.
Within a few months, I saw a huge difference in myself. My mood improved and my migraines disappeared. I stayed the path and added in more healthy habits. Eventually I was able to reverse bone loss.
It was then that I decided that I wanted to help people overcome their chronic illnesses as a purpose. I wanted everyone to experience the recovery and wellness my family experienced. In 2009, I discovered The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and earned my certification as a Holistic Health and Nutrition Coach. I now work with clients helping them to adopt the diet and lifestyle changes their diagnosis and personal goals require.
If you are:
